Katrina Nixon: The soft colors and almost ephemeral quality of Katrina Nixon's art serve as a visual way for her to communicate a sense of peacefulness and joy that she wants to give people. "I create my pieces in order to give people imagery that feels good and reminds them of the love they have in their lives." Working mostly with charcoal, pen and colored pencil, the artist uses clean lines and attention to detail to create subtle yet striking works that seem to have a life of their own. Raised in the Celo Community in the North Carolina mountians, Nixon was blessed with a childhood where she was able to explore and foster her own interests. Her home was close to the Penland School of the Arts, and while growing up in Celo she was able to learn from some very accomplished artists. After winning some state-level awards in high school Nixon continued her study at UNCG and later Winthrop University. Nixon's work in the art world continues to expand, and she is beginning to do some work in oils and acrylics which open up new possibilities as far as design and color. |
