Eric Hurtgen:

"There's never really been a time when I wasn't interested in art." For a man who has lived in many different places, picking up odd jobs and trying his hand at different things, this statement sums up the one constant in his life. Eric's creative outlets include graffiti art, songwriting, graphic design and creative writing, but it was drawing that has been his true love since childhood.

In the late 90's Eric began working some with acrylics on canvas, and in 2001 he began using it as his primary form of expression for art. His work in acrylic is influenced by his many years experimenting in the art of graffiti, by the avant-garde art movement of the New York School in the mid-1900s, and also by his own life experiences in the cities of the mid-west iron belt and the areas of rural Kentucky. "When I paint I bring to the canvas my own impression of the dissonance and disconnect of the city and the transcendence of the country."
