Dan Allegrucci: Artist Statement: I present fragmented narratives that do not tell a complete story, but balance specific detail with ambiguity. Each image acts as an incomplete framework for the viewer to attach his/her own experience and interpretations to. My preferred medium is woodcut printmaking. The gouge creates a physical, unforgiving line that is well suited for an honest, sometimes harsh, examination of a subject. I use the technique to explore masculine stereotypes. Fathers, fighters, workers, etc., are often referenced either directly or indirectly. Bio: Daniel Allegrucci earned his BFA in printmaking in 1998 from UNC-Charlotte and continued his studies at Wichita State University. In addition to being a fine art printmaker, he has worked professionally as a flexographic press operator, pre-press technician and web designer. He currently lives and works in Charlotte, NC. |
