Amy Cespedes Glisan: Though the subject matter of Amy Cespedes Glisan's art is familiar, the imaginative touch she brings and her unique techinque give her work a definitive style. Working mostly with acrylics on foamboard or clayboard, she starts by etching into the board and then filling it in with layers of paint, glazes and varnishes. Her techinque gives her work a distinct look that combines modern whimsical imagery with the depth and patina of an antique. Using that technique she paints fruit and flowers with a stylized look. "Some of my subjects I paint from life, but most are from my imagination." Glisan said. her many inspirations range from architecture and patterns in oriental carpets and textiles to the work of modern painters such as Paul Klee and Joan Miro. A native of New Orleans, Glisan studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and then continued her education at Louisiana Tech University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. |
